What is a gift that they have received that was especially touching or significant?

(( Hrm. Adri’s had two gifts that were particularly significant/touching for her. She hasn’t had all that many that weren’t just practical, but there are two which stand out. One was almost three years ago, when Adilah Kasra gave her an Orrian pistol – it was the finest she’d ever encountered, and all of a sudden it was hers, with no strings attached, just because her sweetheart knew she valued good weapons.

(( The other is even less practical, and she didn’t realise the significance so well at the time, but about six months ago, as she and Rose Sharo were starting to be an “item”, Rose bought her a necklace that, while she could in theory have made it, the raw materials exceeded her inventory and means – but Rose was able to just buy it for her because “you should have something pretty”. With her background, the notion that she could be worth that sort of expenditure was mind-blowing then, and has had a lot to do with increasing her confidence over the months since.

(( Others have tried, and their gifts were of significance as well but those two stand out the most. ))

What makes them feel safe or secure? What makes them feel insecure or unsafe?

(( Adri feels safest and the most secure when she’s in a place where she knows the surroundings, or possibly is in sufficient control thereof, so that nothing can sneak up on her. Because of her magically augmented hearing, this typically has more to do with being able to hear things than with seeing them. Ultimately, for her, security is in being able to get away from any threat.

(( The flip side of that is that she doesn’t like feeling at all cornered or trapped in unfamiliar locales, or especially when it’s noisy enough that she can’t hear approaching dangers. She especially doesn’t like having her path to an exit blocked by a man – meaning a human male. That’s PTSD-related, or she’d be just as bothered by norns and charr in the way. Any obstacle is bad, but men are the worst for her. ))

What do their hands look and feel like?

(( Her hands are, thanks to relatively recent events, un-scarred and otherwise unmarked. Despite how small she is, her long fingers aren’t bony, since she’s stronger than she looks (and thus there’s some musculature in her fingers). She’s self-conscious about the lack of scars (having had knife scars most of her life), so she often wears gloves. This keeps them relatively uncalloused, even, despite her weapons work and her jewel-crafting. Because of this and her (now) higher standard of living, she has the soft-feeling hands of an aristocrat – at least until she starts jabbing those fingers into the eye sockets of people who insist on groping her hands. 😛 ))

does putting signs in windows that say “no wifi haha talk to each other sweeties :)” ever actually do anything good or do potential customers just say “oh well there’s another place down the street that’s infinitely less pretentious wanna go there instead”

Like, maybe the reason that so many tomboys “grow out of it” is because of the concentrated efforts of those around them, parents and peers and teachers and bosses, to “correct” their behavior and align the belief that being a mature adult woman means conforming to femininity. It’s kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. Being a gender nonconforming woman is stunted and immature… don’t you know you’re supposed to grow out of it? Everyone grows out of it!
