‘I don’t want you to die for me.; She smiled. ‘I want you to show me that you love me; show me that you care. Console me when I’m depressed, lift my spirits when I’m down. Laugh with me when I’m being silly, smile with me when I’m happy. I want you to live, not just for me, but for yourself as well.’
‘But I would die for you.’ He said again, in earnest.
She smiled again, bitterly this time.
‘What good are you to me dead?’
Soon we will be strangers. No, we can never be that. Hurting someone is an act of reluctant intimacy. We will be dangerous acquaintances with a history.
