Midnight Heartache

Shifting slightly to accommodate the renewed presence of the cat in the bed, Adriwyn looked at the heavily tattooed redhead who’d such a bombshell on her earlier that evening.

She was so broken up over my absence and news of the assassination attempts, the other girls at the tea shop felt they had to get her a cat… and after not being able to come up with a name for the little fluffball, she finally decided to name it after me – so if I never came back, she’d still have an Adri to cuddle. She fought to blink back the tears she’d managed not to show earlier when she’d been told.

You told me we were going to be uncomplicated guilty pleasures on the side, darling. We’d both be free to see others at any time. You were looking forward to feeling “wicked” about being with a married woman… then, you kept saying it, but you were dreading it. You didn’t really want me to marry Rose. I didn’t catch that at first… but you told me you hadn’t been seeing anyone else. Just how hard have you fallen for me? I’ll have to tell you about Alexandria and Mirex soon… what will that do to you? I love you, but those two have filled my heart in a way… I only thought had ever been done before. I don’t want to hurt you, my sweet darling, but I’m sure this is going to….

She closed her eyes and let the tears drip into the sheets, snuggling up to the other woman around the cat again.
