A courier comes early after the most recent tea night, presenting himself to the guards at Rinswarth. ‘Wintersday package for Miss Smith from…’ he pauses as he squints at his instructions, ‘Countess Jardin. Who takes delivery?’
Once the parcel finally made its way to its intended recipient, it would prove to have a more festive package within, and a letter:
Dear Ms Smith,
I’ve long suspected a certain amount of parallel skills between us, if not perhaps of background, and yet I wasn’t sure enough to send the enclosed gift. However, Linneia has assured me that you at least also collect blades, so even if I’m wrong, perhaps it will be taken with the spirit of appreciation that’s intended. And if I’m right… you can never have too many of decent quality such “consumables”.
I’ve been struggling with what to get you, both as a token of my congratulations for your engagement, and in appreciation for the dancing lessons. I’m sorry this isn’t more appropriate, and that my ingenuity has failed me, and hope you’ll accept this in the spirit of the season despite my failings.
Warm regards,
Countess Adriwyn Jardin
When the present itself was opened, it would turn out to be two braces of exceptionally well-balanced and properly edged darksteel throwing knives, and a matching dozen shuriken, all in a black leather carrying case with a flap that can be used to secure them all in place, or tied back the other way to leave them handy for throwing from inside a coat or a skirt.
