A Letter, Delivered by a Raven in the Reach

(( The letter is in a nice envelope, addressed to:
Ms Smith
c/o The Don Perevelli Estate
Divinity’s Reach

(( The content is in a fairly well-calligraphed hand, though not quite at the professional level. ))

Dear Ms Smith,

What times are convenient for you with regard to dancing lessons? And, I have to confess that growing up the way I did, I’ve really only barely heard of ballet – how should I dress for it? I didn’t ask when we were discussing it in person because I knew that Arntae would volunteer her answer.

Regards,
Countess Adriwyn Jardin

(( The return address is for the Jardin estate in the Ascalon Settlement. ))

I Need to Talk to Your Ex

alyssiadore:

<Adriwyn?> Alyssia didn’t much initiate contact with the earring Adri had made for the purpose, and her uncertainty in using it showed in her mental voice.

<G’mornin’, Aly! What’s up?> As usual, the younger woman was disgustingly chipper in what Alyssia thought of as the morning – never mind that Adri had probably had lunch already.

<Have you seen Luna lately?>

Adri tried not to show her surprise at that question, considering she wasn’t alone at the time. <Aye… she was even up at the Refuge a few days ago, and at Tea last night.> An impression of there being more to say leaked through, despite her attempt to keep the communication to just the words she’d thought.

<Was she accompanied?> The priestess decided to ignore the “lump in the throat” thought that the ex-waif hadn’t managed to hide.

<Only by Kit….> Her mental voice showed confusion as to the point of the question.

<I’m sorry, Dearie. I think it best I not explain until I talk to her – assuming I can catch up to her. I will explain after, but I need to be sure of something first.>

<I… all right. I… I hope she knows who you are, at least….> She couldn’t help pursing her lips and swearing at herself under her breath. She had not meant to be so plaintive.

<Oh… Dearie, I’m so sorry. I should have been at this earlier. We will talk soon, I promise, but I need to see her first.>

<All right… but it had better be very soon!>

Midnight Heartache

Shifting slightly to accommodate the renewed presence of the cat in the bed, Adriwyn looked at the heavily tattooed redhead who’d such a bombshell on her earlier that evening.

She was so broken up over my absence and news of the assassination attempts, the other girls at the tea shop felt they had to get her a cat… and after not being able to come up with a name for the little fluffball, she finally decided to name it after me – so if I never came back, she’d still have an Adri to cuddle. She fought to blink back the tears she’d managed not to show earlier when she’d been told.

You told me we were going to be uncomplicated guilty pleasures on the side, darling. We’d both be free to see others at any time. You were looking forward to feeling “wicked” about being with a married woman… then, you kept saying it, but you were dreading it. You didn’t really want me to marry Rose. I didn’t catch that at first… but you told me you hadn’t been seeing anyone else. Just how hard have you fallen for me? I’ll have to tell you about Alexandria and Mirex soon… what will that do to you? I love you, but those two have filled my heart in a way… I only thought had ever been done before. I don’t want to hurt you, my sweet darling, but I’m sure this is going to….

She closed her eyes and let the tears drip into the sheets, snuggling up to the other woman around the cat again.
